For five years, the Plot ran its market garden from Old Holly farm.
As the Plot relocates to Summerhouse Community Farm in Lancaster, Cath Richardson shares new plans for the veg beds!
The community allotment at Old Holly Farm, just south of Lancaster was started in April 2026.
Although it is early days we are making steady progress.
Seven large beds have been dug, weeded and planted up with vegetables, herbs and flowers.

I would like to say a huge thank you to Bilsborrow Young Farmers who came to help with the initial heavy digging.
I could hardly believe how much work was done in one evening, it’s amazing what a few strong youngsters can do!
As we don’t have a greenhouse or polytunnel to raise seedlings a few plants were grown on kitchen windowsills but we are also supported by a local charity, Let’s Grow Preston.
They provide free seeds and seedlings that are planted by those attending their regular sessions.
This provides purposeful tasks for participants, and we get the benefit of free, ready to plant seedlings.
In return, any surplus food is collected by Let’s Grow Preston and distributed to local food hubs.
The site consists of two paddocks and a stone built Sheperds hut.
Phase one is almost complete, the beds have been dug and planted with early potatoes,
dwarf green beans, broad beans, peas, cabbages, climbing beans, onions.
Lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, courgettes, squash, herbs and some flowers to assist with pollination.
All our volunteers get to share the harvest, and the surplus is distributed through the food hubs so there is no waste.
We are now busy with phase two and are establishing raised beds to fill with fruits and vegetables.
We will be holding an open day on Sunday, 2 August from 9.30pm until 1.30pm at Old Holly Farm, Scorton PR3 1AA.
It is just off the A6 and is on a bus route.
Why not come along to meet us and learn more about what we are doing?
