North Lancashire is home to 24 diverse allotment sites. An allotment review carried out in 2024 highlighted their multiple values and shared recommendations for supporting thriving allotment cultures going forward.

Transforming waste into a valuable local resource and promoting sustainable consumption. Closing Loops is cultivating a regenerative food economy whilst building a composting academy, gleaning network, citizen journalist movement and co-creating North Lancashire recipes.

Growing Food & Community

At FoodFutures, we see being able to grow food at a community level as an important part of building resilience for the future. With support from the National Lottery Community Fund, two local food growing projects, the Plot and ClaverHill community food project hosted a series of workshops for local people interested in community growing.

Community Composting Network

The Closing Loops project is building a composting network for North Lancashire to encourage community composting as an accessible way for everyone to get into composting, and to spread composting awareness, skills and knowledge in the community.

Share the Harvest

The Closing Loops project coordinates this annual campaign, bringing together community groups and organisations across North Lancashire in an effort to reduce fruit waste and celebrate the diversity and abundance of locally grown seasonal fruit. Everyone is invited to join in.

North Lancashire Gleaning Network

The North Lancashire Gleaning Network is made up of volunteers who are actually food waste super heroes, going out to farms and orchards to harvest crops that would otherwise go to waste.

REconomy and Pots of Possibility

The Pots of Possibility fund is part of the Closing Loops project. It supports ideas for developing a zero-waste, circular and regenerative economy in North Lancashire.

Cooking and chefs network

The Closing Loops project is establishing a network of growers, farmers, chefs, community cooks and passionate volunteers to build community food skills and support good food procurement.
