Anna Clayton from FoodFutures invites you to drop by and explore Summerhouse Farm on Saturday October 4 between 11am and 3pm…

The open day offers the chance to explore this new community farm site off Ashton Road in Lancaster, to try seasonal treats and share your dreams for its future!

There will be activities for all ages including a sound and story walk with Janet Swan.

This will involve a short walk along the hedgerow with an opportunity to sit, slow down and notice sounds, notes and words in order to be part of a hedgerow orchestra!

You can have a go at creating bird feeders and leaf crowns with ReWilding Roots using treasures from around the site.

There will be seasonal wild food tasters using ingredients that can be found around the site already, or grown on the site in the future, including hedgerow cordials and wild pestos.

Site tours and activities to collect your observations and dreams for the site will take place between 11:30am – 12:30pm and 1:30pm – 2:30pm.

This open day is part of a wider series of events and a survey that seek to collect dreams and ideas for the site.  You can find out more about this project and how to feed in at foodfutures.org.uk/dreaming-up-summerhouse-farm/

As part of this you can complete a survey (www.surveymonkey.com/r/summerhouse_farm_dreams) by the end of September to share your ideas for the new site whilst being in with the chance of winning a local food hamper.

You can also join the other upcoming events that will help to shape the site’s development.

These include a biofertiliser workshop with Matt Dunwell on September 30, a Regenerative Design workshop on October 3, and a water harvesting design workshop on October 12.

All of this will lead to an initial permaculture design for the site that will be shared for feedback during an event on November 8.

This project was bought by LESS (Lancaster District) CIC as part of a wider FoodFutures strategy and dream to see more land put into community ownership and being used for education and growing healthy soils, biodiversity and sustainable food for local residents.
