Grace Russell, the Marketing and Communications Coordinator at FoodFutures, invites people to join this year’s FoodFriends Autumn Feast. Come enjoy delicious local food and celebrate the scheme and its members!
As leaves begin to cover the ground, the spirit of North Lancs’ community is ready to come alive in celebration at the annual FoodFriends Autumn Feast. Join us on Thursday, November 21, from 6:15-8:00 pm at the Herbarium. This event will celebrate the FoodFriends members and their support, while also offering an exciting opportunity to learn about the two local food projects they are backing.
The FoodFriends scheme is a small society lottery and was set up to bridge the gap in funding for establishing small-scale food-growing businesses. Until this year, farms under 5 hectares were not eligible for government grants or support. This makes it much more challenging to set up and financially sustain smaller food projects without support from groups like FoodFriends.
Our vision supported by FoodFriends includes:
– Establishing more local food projects in the coming years.
– Creating a localised food system.
– Knowing where our food is grown and who grows it.
– Providing meaningful jobs for local residents within the district.
– Farming in an environmentally friendly manner that builds nature and soil health.
– Producing healthy food that is distributed over short distances with minimal packaging.
The Autumn Feast will be an informative gathering, we will share deeper insights into both projects and their importance, celebrate our triumphs, and, of course, our FoodFriends! It’s not just about enjoying good food; it’s also about understanding the journey from farm to table and the importance of a sustainable, local food system.
Current members are invited to attend and bring a friend to see the impact of your contributions and celebrate together. Whether you are a current supporter or a newcomer interested in our projects or the scheme this event is a perfect opportunity to join the celebration and learn more.
By contributing as little as £5 a month through the small-society lottery, you can play a vital role in supporting the training of new small scale growers and the development of local food systems. It’s an invitation to become part of something, a chance to invest in the sustainability of your community’s food sources. Become a FoodFriend here.
Tickets are free, but if you are able to make a donation this will help cover the cost of the meal. Book your place visit the link https://loom.ly/GnbKPYM – we hope to see you there!
