Lancaster Community Interest Company LESS has secured funding for one year for a communications coordinator to help cultivate North Lancashire’s Gold Sustainable Food Places campaign.

A successful funding bid to The National Lottery Awards For All Scheme totalling £20,000 will allow LESS and the FoodFutures partnership to run a press campaign throughout 2026.

The funding will also be used to host events that will bring people together to co-design future projects that meet people’s needs, and run an inclusive communications programme to ensure more diverse communities can participate in a range of local food projects.

Nick Lakin, communications and marketing coordinator at FoodFutures said: “This funding has come at a pivotal time.

“In 2023, North Lancashire received a national Silver Award for its work – particularly in supporting communities facing food insecurity.

“The region is now working towards Gold, a standard held by a handful of places in the UK, because it will unlock a deeper level of transformative, community-led change – especially for those most affected by the cost-of-living crisis.

“This short-term funding will bridge a gap and help us get there while setting the stage for longer-term partnership working.”
