Hi, we’re Joanna and Pav, a husband-and-wife team behind JP Bakery, which we started last year.

Pav arrived in Morecambe in 2017 to work in a restaurant kitchen, then moved to front of house and later was promoted to Assistant Manager. We met in January 2021 through a dating app, then met in person in Poland shortly after. There was a spark – we married and welcomed our son a year and a half later.

Baking runs in both our families, so it has been natural for us to bake fresh and natural pastries and bread since early childhood. In Poland, even in small towns, there are several bakeries where you can get fresh bread in the morning, as well as snacks like croissants and sweet rolls. Living in Morecambe, we missed this and the idea for our business was born.

Opening the bakery turned out to be a great success; in the first days and even weeks, people lined up for bread, and we couldn’t keep up with the baking. We survived the first winter, which is always a significant test for a new business.

At JP Bakery, we now bake bread, rolls, baguettes, cakes and pastries daily, so everything is always fresh. Our bakery brings traditional baking methods based on old family recipes and modern flavours to the heart of Morecambe.

Our grandparents taught us how to bake and passed down old recipes. Our bestseller, brown sourdough bread, is just a starter made from dark rye flour and whole wheat flour, plus flour, water and salt. We do not use any leavening agents or preservatives.

We’ve always been passionate about baking and like to think every loaf is made with love, dedication and care. We care very much about the quality of what we make, and this care results in exceptional flavours and taste in every bite. Seeing customers enjoy our creations is the best reward.

We use local ingredients where possible, for example from Matthews Cotswold Flour and fruits from local farmers. We support the local community and donate baked goods to Stanley’s Community Centre.

We sell through our shop in Regent Street in Morecambe, provide catering for organisations and events, and we supply our baked goods to restaurants and cafes including The Royal Bar & Shaker, Morecambe Bay Chowder, Beach House Cafe and The Sun pub in Lancaster.

You can also buy our bread through Gather, North Lancashire’s food hub, and on 13 June we’ll be at Lancaster’s Midsummer Market. We look forward to connecting with our customers and the other stallholders there.

Selling at local markets is a lovely experience because we can reach new customers, talk to them and get to know them, and connect with other local food producers to support and collaborate with each other.

Lancaster’s Midsummer Market is part of Wild Roots Nature Festival.
