Growing Food Growing Community: crop planning for a Northern climate with the Plot
Crop-planning is at the heart of your community growing project. Your crop plans will enable you to plan your seed sowing, planting and ultimately, your harvesting and eating!
This session will cover:
- Considerations to underpin a crop plan in a community setting and where to start
- Getting the best from our northern climate
- How to turn a crop plan into a weekly jobs list
Crop planning is a critical and often overlooked part of farming. A good crop plan can help you calculate how much of each crop to plant in the greenhouse each week when they will be transplanted in the field, the timing and quantity of harvest on a weekly basis through the growing season, and succession planting or cover cropping to make maximum use of limited space.
During this activity, Dennis, organic market gardener, and FarmStart trainer Dionysios “Dennis” Touliatos at the Plot, will explain to you what are the essential ingredients of a good crop plan.
Date: Tuesday 4 November 2025 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM.
