Pollinators transition game workshop

Pollinators Transition Game workshop – 18 May 2024 in Silverdale

Calling all beekeepers, gardeners and friends of pollinators in North Lancashire
Design a Serious Game about our local pollinating insects!

Ishara Press  is inviting you to help create a  Transition Game (a type of Serious
Game or gamified learning) at a free workshop on 18 May 2024 at the RSPB
Leighton Moss in Silverdale. Transition Games are educational, multi-actor
simulations that help people understand what is involved in making changes in
collaboration with others.

This workshop is focused on designing a game about our local pollinators.
During the workshop you will use your expertise to collaboratively define the
game’s start point, three or four phases of the transition, and end point (e.g.
establishing a pollinator corridor of X miles); identify the actors or roles involved
in the transition (e.g. beekeeper, gardener, farmer, conscious consumer, council,
wildlife charity); and devise realistic scenario cards, both negative and positive,
e.g. ‘Lancaster City Council establishes district-wide initiative to promote No Mow
May (move ahead 2 spaces)’. The finished game will allow people to practise and
envisage the phases from different angles, e.g. as the beekeeper, as the gardener,
as the honey buyer.

The workshop will be led by  Professor Ulrike Zeshan , director of Ishara Press
and author of  Serious Games in Co-Creative Facilitation  (2020). She is a world-
renowned expert on training new game authors and players to make the most of
gamified learning, so don’t worry if you have never played a Serious Game

Our Pollinators Transition Game workshop will be held in the Holt meeting room
at RSPB Leighton Moss (next to Silverdale railway station) on Saturday 18 May

We will have a morning session at 10am-1pm and an afternoon session
from 1:30-4:30pm. Tea, coffee and lunch are provided.
