In this week’s column, FoodFutures communications coordinator Nick Lakin invites you to Spring Into Action with a brand new series of events scheduled for April and May 2026…
FoodFutures North Lancashire is coordinating a two week series of events that invites people and organisations across the Lancaster District to ‘Spring Into Action’ around creating a thriving local food system that is healthy, resilient and fair.
From April 20 – May 2, Spring Into Action will feature more than 20 food-focused workshops, events and sessions for everyone to get involved in.
The series opens with a REcommoning and Summerhouse Community Farm exhibition at The Storey in Lancaster, which runs from 20 April – 1 May.
You can also ‘Listen to Soil Microbes’ at Uggle Lane Nature Area, join a Share The Harvest picnic at Claver Hill, attend a Lancaster Green Spaces forum meeting or a skill share in composting Eggcup food waste at Cork Road Allotments in Lancaster.
Why not join a tour and work session at Summerhouse Community Farm, or a Bealtaine Circle, or set out on an orchard blossom trail around the city?
FoodFutures is also teaming up with Halton Mill in Halton to host a Spring Food Shindig on 25 April, which will include a community meal, foraging workshop, a session on creating a herb garden, a food champion induction, tasting sessions, and lots more.
There will also be a ‘Mapping Our Place’ event at The Centre@Halton on April 26.
For those interested in stretching their minds, the unnamed bookclub will meet at The Gregson Centre in Lancaster on Tuesday 28 April evening to discuss the book ‘Is A River Alive?’, while the FoodFutures Reconomy steering group are organising an event on 24 April to co-design a regional approach to ‘building a regenerative economy from the ground up’.
On 29 April, you can join local food system facilitator Henry Russell for an experiential day exploring how inner development and growth leads to outer change.
The programme will be based on the United Nation’s Inner Development Goals Framework and integrate a number of approaches that Henry has learned along the way including as leader of the Conscious Food Systems Alliance.
