FoodFutures is working to support North Lancashire in winning a Gold Sustainable Food Places (SFP) Award by the end of 2026.

This Gold Award requires the district to make particular progress in two key areas – building a more sustainable and just local food economy from the ground up, and developing Lancaster District Food Justice Partnership’s food ladders approach.

Both are explained in a new campaign video, available to watch on the FoodFutures Youtube channel.

FoodFutures is now looking for support from many more people and organisations  across North Lancashire to achieve the Gold award by 2026.

Ways to get involved:

  1. Attend a Food Champion induction session or quarterly partnership meeting, to help you find your place within the local food network.
  2. Become a FoodFriend to help this lottery scheme reach its 500 member target. By doing so you directly support local training for budding horticulturalists and the development of small scale market gardens, while having the chance of winning a monthly food voucher to spend with independent local food businesses.
  3. Contact harrietp@northlancashirecab.org.uk if you’d like to join the Lancaster District Food Justice Partnership or your business could support the food club network to build its financial resilience and access more surplus or sustainable local food.
  4. Buy some of your weekly food from sustainable local food businesses, including the North Lancs food hub Gather, or offer to host a Gather community collection point.
  5. Support the development of a food circle near you – a group made up of people from your closest allotment site, food club, a community chef, a compost champion – to help build local food resilience and community connections.
  6. Sign up for The Plot’s FarmStart training scheme or an upcoming Growing Food and Community workshop if you’re interested in a career as a grower or would like to set up/develop a community food project.
  7. Volunteer at your local food club or community food project.

Businesses, individuals and organisations are also being invited to make pledges to help support the work, which could be financial, collaborative, spreading the word, events, or new ideas. If you are interested in pledging, or supporting the North Lancs is Golden campaign, email marketing@lessuk.org.uk.
