Jamie Murphy

FoodFutures Partnership Chair, Community Connector at Lancaster City Council

“I feel that food is central to how communities work. It has such a significant effect on our health, environment, culture, relationships and understanding of each other. Joining a network of people dedicated to making a difference about food locally, as a community development worker, was clearly something I needed to be part of and help to contribute to. FoodFutures is a broad, wide-ranging and welcoming network that has had a positive impact in all our communities across the North Lancashire District.”

Jamie regularly attends the FoodFutures Heart Group, Community Food Skills Working Group, Lancaster District Food Justice Partnership, and Comms and Engagement Working Group meetings.

Jo Haughton

Communications Coordinator for Gather, The Plot and FoodFriends

Food affects our relationships, our ability to think and make good decisions, our energy and stress levels – our mental and physical health, our opportunities to enjoy and appreciate nature. We solve the food problem, we solve NHS problems and lots more besides – that is why I am here working for FoodFutures working alongside so many folks committed to making this crucial change in our society happen.

Anna Clayton

FoodFutures Coordinator & Claver Hill Co-Chair

“It may seem obvious, but food is essential for life. You could say it is the currency of life. I’m involved with FoodFutures as I have seen first hand how food can be grown, processed and shared in a way that builds communities, human health and healthy environments. I want to support a movement that is working to build a just, fair and resilient food system here in North Lancashire that is aligned with groups and communities around the world that are doing the same thing.”

Anna regularly attends the FoodFutures Heart Group, Community Food Skills Working Group, Local Food Economy and Procurement Working Group, and Comms and Engagement Working Group meetings.

Ellen Pearce

Economy & Procurement Working Group co-lead, FarmStart & Northern Real Farming Conference Coordinator

Ellen regularly attends the FoodFutures Heart Group, Local Food Economy and Procurement Working Group, and Comms and Engagement Working Group meetings.

Dusty Thomas

Lancaster District Food Justice Partnership Chair, Trustee of Eggcup and Morecambe Bay Food Bank, part of the Facilitation Team of Morecambe Bay Poverty Truth Commission

“There are many times in my life where I have gone hungry, both when I was homeless and when on really low benefits. I’ve drunk vinegar to make my stomach shrink and survived on red and brown sauce sandwiches. I have received assistance from Food Banks and am a member of a Food Club.”

Dusty regularly attends the FoodFutures Heart Group and Lancaster District Food Justice Partnership meetings.

Jo Stocking

Closing Loops Pots of Possibility Coordinator

“I’ve always been inspired by creative ways to minimise and reuse waste – making something from nothing seems magical somehow. I enjoy facilitating collaboration and learning, so having the opportunity to do this as part of my role is great. I look forward to supporting people, organisations and communities to get involved in building a thriving regenerative local economy here in North Lancashire.“

Jo regularly attends the Local Food Economy and Procurement Working Group meetings.

Jay Godden

At Eggcup: Gleaning Network Coordinator

“I organise gleans in the local area’s farms and growing spaces to capture food that would otherwise go to waste. I also work closely with Eggcup to find food that can’t be sold but that is still good to eat, which Eggcup redistribute to those in our district who are on a tighter budget.”

Jay regularly attends the Healthy Food and Environment Working Group meetings.

Kathy Barton

Claver Hill Co-Chair, Compost Champion and Environment Champion

“I love food and nature. I have an ongoing experiment to not buy fresh veg but eat what we grow at Claver Hill all year round. In other words, eat seasonal.”

Kathy regularly attends the Community Food Skills Working Group meetings.

Catherine Stott

Community Cooking Coordinator, Closing Loops Project

I work closely with Silvia to deliver cooking workshops in the local community. This also includes supporting the Landed Community Kitchen’s Pilot, looking at how we can provide community spaces for people to enjoy meals that use and celebrate ingredients from local organic growers. Basically, I spend a lot of time thinking about cooking and food…

Catherine regularly attends the Food Economy Working Group meetings.

Rev Ian Dewar

Lead Chaplain UHMBT, Lead coordinator for Bay Health Festivals, member of Staff Wellbeing Compact at UHMBT, Bereavement Support, Trustee Morecambe Bay Food Bank.

“I have a deep interest in the relationship between food, health, and spirituality. Why has our food culture become so corrupted, and food disappeared as a marker of life and spirituality? Historically associated with major life events: birth, adulthood, death, are the deaths of a food culture and spirituality linked?”

Rev. Ian regularly attends the FoodFutures Heart Group meetings.

Andi Chapple

Andi regularly attends the Comms and Engagement Working Group meetings.

Diana McIntyre

“I remember my grandparents’ vegetable patch and their ways of making use of everything; their enjoyment and the everyday-ness of their relationship with food (growing) and compost has been passed down to me. The community composting role is giving me an amazing opportunity to work collectively in response to the current climate, biodiversity and food challenges we all face.”

Diana regularly attends the Healthy Food and Environment Working Group meetings.

Glen Duckett

Trainer, chef, grower, forager

“I enjoy collaborating on projects that help to promote local food growing, foraging and food preparation, including cookery sessions for  improved health and nutrition. I focus my attention on areas of  regeneration and socio-economic need, in particular West End, Morecambe.  I have lots of experience working in communities with children, young people and adults using creative approaches to connect folk through food.”

Glen regularly attends the Community Food Skills Working Group meetings.

Bridget Cook

Community gardener and Food Friend

Loss of biodiversity, climate change, soil erosion, food poverty … it’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the global scale of these issues. For me, it helps to tackle them at a local level and to join forces with people who share the same concerns. Being involved with Food Futures helps me to feel part of an amazing network of people in North Lancashire who are doing what they can to reverse these trends.

Bridget regularly attends the Community Food Skills and Healthy Food and Environment working groups.
