Light Up Lancaster returns to the city to help brighten the autumn nights on November 6, 7 and 8 – that’s Thursday, Friday and Saturday this week.

During this year’s Light Up Lancaster festival, you can discover a magical light-art trail throughout the city: It’s fabulous, free and family-friendly! This year’s theme is ‘In The Blink Of An Eye’ so get ready to experience a festival where shapeshifting, illusion and the ever-changing will be reflected in fun, engaging and clever light artworks. It’s all about the impermanence of things, even the things we think are always going to be the same. Venues will include the Castle, the Priory, Williamson Park and Dalton Square, with plenty of other sites in the city centre and will be open from 5 to 10pm each night.

Once again, the Market Square will be beautifully lit and will host Light Up Lancaster’s local street food market. Enjoy a wide range of hot food, cakes and drinks from the stalls, sit in the outdoor dining space and enjoy music from local musicians and DJs throughout the night. Bars and cafes around the city centre will also be open with mulled wine, hot drinks, delicious food and more on offer. It’s a chance to make a night of it and enjoy the best of local food and drink.

The market is hosted by LESS (Lancaster District) CIC and has a focus on supporting local, independent street food traders. You’ll see some familiar faces from the regular Charter Market (every Wednesday and Saturday) and from the quarterly FoodFutures Seasonal Markets. Many of these traders use locally produced food and are passionate about having a positive impact on the local community and the environment.

The market is part of the wider work of LESS. Any profits made from hosting the market will get re-invested back into the festival.

Join in and enjoy the festive, sparkling atmosphere of a market square transformed, and brighten your night with a wide range of food and drink offers.

The food market during Light Up Lancaster is organised by FoodFutures: North Lancashire’s Sustainable Food Network as part of the Closing Loops project. Closing Loops aims to create a thriving regenerative economy in North Lancashire – an economy which puts the wellbeing of people and the environment at its heart. The market is part of Lancaster’s seasonal markets.
