We are inviting artists young and old to share their creative interpretation of a potential vision for 2030.

What can our gardens, neighbourhoods and school yards look like in 2030? What if we envisaged a District of green spaces, high streets and private gardens brimming with edible plants and habitats for birds, bees and butterflies?

FoodFutures, North Lancashire’s sustainable food partnership, has been working on a 10-year food strategy – a ‘guiding north star’ for sustainable food work in the District.

The consultation process began in December 2020 with network-wide themed reflective and visioning mornings. February saw a number of Community Conversations around food, the environment, food poverty and access to food. There is also a District-wide survey open to all residents and a DIY activity created for groups to lead themselves.

Creativity can be important to how we process and share our visions of the future. Sometimes it’s easier to express our ideas with shape and colour. We’re asking residents, especially children and young adults, to get involved by “Painting A Picture of Our Future” – with this artwork aiding us in the creation of our 10-year local food strategy.

Help us by sketching, drawing, painting, or creating your version of FoodFutures’ vision of “a thriving local food system that is healthy, resilient and fair”. This project was also distributed through a number of local schools in February as a home teaching module. If you would like to access the activity sheets created for the schools and a video to guide the young artists through each location we’ve asked them to consider, you can find them on www.FoodFutures.org.uk/paint-our-future

The aim is to collect images of the artwork to include in the 10-year strategy that will be released in June 2021. Please share a picture of your work with us by emailing foodfutures@lessuk.org and share it through social media to encourage others to do the same.

We hope that artists of all backgrounds and mediums will see this prompt as a means to engage in a cross-generation, community wide endeavor. We believe both artists and the creative vision of young people in our District are crucial to creating a complete strategy.

If you would like to learn more about our strategy development process or respond to the survey, go to: www.FoodFutures.org.uk/10-year-strategy. The next Quarterly Partnership Meeting is 28th April, 10am – 1pm, where all are welcome to hear and comment on the first draft of the 10-year strategy.
