In this week’s column Anna Clayton invites you to join one of FoodFutures upcoming induction sessions to help you understand the work of FoodFutures and your potential role within this local food movement.

At FoodFutures events we often hear people say they know a specific project e.g. Closing Loops, a food club, composting project or community garden, but don’t understand how it relates to FoodFutures.

Or we meet people that have a passion for food and have an idea for a community food or composting project or business, but don’t know where to start making it happen.

Or we meet people that would like to get more involved with FoodFutures work but don’t know how.

In response, FoodFutures now offers food champion induction sessions which are designed to support all of the above and to offer some answers.

The food champion induction sessions seek to offer an introduction to FoodFutures, what it is and how it works.

They create space for understanding what attendees are interested in so that we can then connect them up and share information about projects that are relevant to their interests.

They also offer a space for people to come together in a specific place to meet other people interested in food.

Alongside the Growing Food and Community training series (foodfutures.org.uk/growing-food-community), these food champion induction sessions also play an important role in building North Lancashire’s resilience for the future – around food and beyond!

Whatever your passion, there are lots of ways for you to get involved in local food work. From informal social networking events, to skill shares, to active volunteering on various projects… These food champion induction sessions aim to assist you in finding your place and a role that matches your interests and skills.

And so I invite you to join one of the upcoming food champion induction series which are being held in different venues across the district in order to increase access: 30 July will be held at Stanley’s Community Centre in Morecambe, 20 August in Wray Village Institute, 17 September in the Victoria Institute in Caton and 30 October at Friends Meeting House in Lancaster.
