Anna Clayton invites you to join LESS in exploring possible allotment futures this February.

Throughout February there will be a series of ‘Allotment Futures Community Conversations’ that draw on some of the emerging themes from the allotment review surveys.

LESS received 242 surveys in total from Lancaster District’s allotment plot holders, committee members and people on waiting lists, and this data is in the process of being analysed. Deborah (the person coordinating the allotment review) has also visited over half of Lancaster District’s 22 allotment sites to explore the lay of the land and has discovered a couple more undocumented allotment sites in the process! Through all of this exploration, a range of support needs, visions for the future and issues have emerged that LESS would like to talk through with representatives from allotment sites. A lot of stuff has also emerged that LESS would like to celebrate and highlight.

In this light, if you are an allotment plot holder, committee member, are on a waiting list or would like to set up a new allotment site, please join us at one of the February community conversations. These really will offer the opportunity and space to have your say on Lancaster District’s allotment futures and to shape the support work LESS facilitates throughout 2024 and 2025.

To try and make these spaces more accessible, we are running a series of in-person Allotment Futures Conversations in different locations across the district, and on different days/times, along with an online session too.

These events will be held as follows:

If you can’t make the in-person sessions (drinks and biscuits provided!), the online session will be run on Sunday 18 Feb 16:00 – 18:00. Book your place here: https://www.trybooking.com/uk/events/landing/52049

Further Information

Further details about the above and the allotment review more generally can be found on the LESS and FoodFutures websites (lessuk.org/projects/allotment_review  AND foodfutures.org.uk).

You can also email Deborah (allotment_review@lessuk.org) or come and find out more at Lancaster’s Potato Day and seed swap this Saturday 27 January from 11:00 – 15:00 at Friends Meeting House in Lancaster.

Please do try and join us or get other representatives from your allotment site at each event, to make sure your allotment benefits. The more the better!
