What is Participatory Budgeting?
Participatory budgeting (PB) is coming to North Lancashire as part of the Closing Loops ‘Pots of Possibility’ fund. PB is a democratic process in which citizens and local communities decide directly how to spend part of a public budget or a community fund (such as ‘Pots of Possibility’). PB is not new. It’s been happening for over 20 years in the UK and, in that time, we have learnt a lot about how to make it work well. Shared Future CIC will be bringing some of this learning to North Lancashire where they will support FoodFutures and Lancaster District CVS to run a local participatory budget over four years to build a fairer and more regenerative food economy in Lancaster District.
As part of this Jez Hall from Shared Future will run a short ‘Intro to Participatory Budgeting’ session on the 4th July (10.30-11.30) online. All are welcome and this is the first step in designing a PB process for North Lancashire. Joining details are below.
