Mushroom growing & cooking workshop

Learn to grow and cook your own mushrooms! The session will focus on how to grow Grey Oyster mushrooms and will include a simple activity of inoculating sterilised substrate with grain spawn and mixing. Each participant will take their kit home to watch it colonise and then fruit to grow their own mushrooms. Instruction leaflets on how and when to fruit and how to harvest will be provided.

You will then learn about the nutritional breakdown and health benefits of mushrooms that ends with a hands-on cooking activity. At the end of the session participants will be able to taste some delicious garlic mushrooms on toast and get recipe cards to try the recipe at home.

This session will be run by local producer Wyreside Mushrooms in Garstang. Their farm grows top quality gourmet mushrooms such as Grey Oyster, Lion’s Mane and King Oyster mushrooms using sustainable materials and low impact methods to minimise their environmental impact.
