Expert Hour: The Power of Composting
Expert Hour: ‘The Power of Composting’ with Diana McIntyre
Composting is transformative. Turning food scraps into a powerful material for healthy soils, plants, food and us. This Expert Hour (our volunteer-led take on Ted Talks) will unvover the creatures busy doing the transforming, the ecological impact of composting, local compost initiatives, and ways to join the composting revolution.
Saturday 27 September, 1-2pm, Gregson Community & Arts Centre
The Gregson’s Big Green Day in partnership with FoodFutures will shine a spotlight on the incredible work to tackle the climate crisis taking place in our city. This is your chance to find our more about what’s happening on your doorstep and how you can make a difference.
Bring along half a cup of your own compost to the Closing Loops composting stall between 10am and 4pm and get to look at it through a digital microscope to observe the helpful little creatures turning your food scraps into compost for free!
The Green Day is part of a community initiative supported by the Pots of Possibility – Your Pots Fund, through the National Lottery Community Fund.

This event is part of Share the Harvest, a seasonal festival celebrating locally grown varieties of apples and pears, rescuing unharvested fruit and raising awareness of food waste through a range of community events. FoodFutures and the Closing Loops project invite everyone in North Lancashire to pitch in and harvest, preserve, celebrate and of course eat apples and pears this autumn.
