SUMMARY:Permaculture Design Course
DESCRIPTION:This 4 day Permaculture Design Course will give you an understanding of permaculture and will provide you with the basic skills and tools to start designing using permaculture principles and ethics. The course will take place as taught sessions and site visits and will lead to producing the basics of an original land based design.\nThe course will run on a 9.30am – 5.30pm structure (exact timings for each day to be confirmed) and will consist of taught sessions and visits to a new-to-Lancaster community farm site for the design work. The first three days will take place in Halton Mill and the fourth at a site in Lancaster. Exact venues for each day will be confirmed with timetabling.\nThis course runs from the Wednesday 26 March until the evening of Saturday 29th March. One meal will be offered each day to course participants and activities will run from about 9:30 -17:30 each day.\nPlaces are offered on a sliding scale & contribute towards one meal each day and other course costs. Contact us if this is not feasible for you.\nYou can book your place here.\n\n\nCourse topics include:\n\nWhy permaculture is particularly relevant today.\nWhat nature can teach us about meeting our all needs more effectively and sustainably.\nThe ethics and principles that underpin permaculture and inspire harmonious designs that work with nature.\nSimple techniques for caring for soil, water, trees and animals.\nHow to improve your own food security, including permaculture gardening and farming methods.\nSome effective, low-tech surveying tools to analyse and map the landscape.\nHow to make the best use of space and slope in land-based permaculture designs.\nAnd much, much more!\n\nWhy do a PDC?\nIf you are looking to make significant positive changes in your life, then the permaculture design course will almost certainly help you.\nWe will be using practical, experiential and theoretical teaching methods to create a fun, lively and inclusive experience. In addition to traditional lecture-style teaching, we use group work, discussions, observation exercises, guided walks, practical activities, videos, and slide shows as learning methods. These are supportive of different learning styles and for people with learning difficulties. We also visit projects where permaculture theory is being put into action.\nAs a group we will benefit from collaborative learning and from spending time together. We don’t expect any previous knowledge and recognise that everyone has their own unique skills, knowledge and areas of interest to bring to the course.\nThis course is for anyone who believes that we need to find ways to better care for ourselves, for each other and for the Earth.\nCourse tutors\n\nAranya will be leading this Permaculture Design Course. Aranya is an experienced permaculture teacher, designer and author.\nIs this course suitable for beginners?\nYes! This course is designed for all levels. We use multiple teaching styles to enhance your learning. We have taken steps to make sure our classes are as inclusive as possible.\n\n
